Entrepreneurs play an important role in creating new jobs. On average, entrepreneurs in Oklahoma create 5.51 jobs in their first year alone. Over 90% of these entrepreneurs require some amount of financing to start their business. Traditional business loans from financial institutions only represent 16.5% of startup capital nationally, making lack of access to capital a major barrier for entrepreneurs. Oklahoma ranks 43rd among all states for access to capital. On average, Oklahoma only brings in $2.79 of venture capital funding per $1k GDP. The national average for all states is $6.77 per $1k GDP.
