In 2017, Oklahoma ranked 10th for the amount of rail tons carried by state. One train can carry as much freight as several hundred trucks. According to the Association of American Railroads, it would have taken approximately 15.5 million trucks to handle the 278.2 million tons of freight that originated in, terminated in, or moved through Oklahoma by rail in 2017.
